Thinking about Ft. Worth might bring to mind old western movies about dusty cattle drives along the legendary Chisholm Trail. The Ft. Across from the Stockyards is the Livestock Exchange Building. This historic adobe-style structure is referred to as the “Wall Street of the West.”
Fort Worth recreation does not end with stockyard history. Next to the downtown area and through the modern, urban cultural district is Trinity Park along the Trinity River. Visitors enjoy a day of activities for adults that include live entertainment as well as the many playgrounds for kids. Trinity Trails are 40 miles of terrain with 17 trailheads for picnics and rest stops. Water adventure is an option with boat launches especially designed for canoes and kayaks.
The downtown area boasts a lively, 35-block, entertainment district in a modern, urban setting known as Sundance Square. Visitors will find shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and other great options along the square. Visit Fire Station No. 1, which dates back to 1907 and is the site of the early city wall. Fire Station No. 1 is an annex of the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History. The station is more than just fire-station history.
