Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events which are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together and take over the mats! Women and girls of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend from any academy affiliation. We welcome beginners and don't require any experience. Our events are designed for 100% participation. However, we do allow parents or chaperone to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.
GIG Texas-Keller Guest instructor: Ev Tadlock & Vanessa Lozano
Ev Tadlock’s jiu-jitsu journey started in the Summer of 2005. Visiting with a friend, who was a student at the local Relson Gracie academy. It has been a love story ever since for Ev. She felt that it would be the first sport that she could find herself having success. Ev was born with the genetic disorder Neurofibromatosis. Previously up to this point, Ev would have mobility / balance issues, so she never felt comfortable participating in sports. She was so excited! At first, she only attended a few classes a week, but soon after college graduation, She found herself attending every day. Less than a year later She was competing in her first tournament, where she was honored to meet the legendary Marcelo Garcia.
Fast forward to 2015 after some life hurdles, such as a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in 2014, Ev found her way to her current home academy, Marcelo Garcia Jiu-Jitsu of Dallas. Under coach Rob Ables’ guidance Ev developed in to a avid competitor and a passion for teaching. Once getting back on her feet she again found her way in the competition scene. Competing nearly every month consistently for four years. Notably, She became the Master 2 Purple Belt No-Gi World Champion in 2017 and podiumed at several other grand-prix events. After 2019’s No Gi World’s she chose to retire from the competition scene to laser focus on technique and teaching. The following Fall in 2020, she made Brown Belt and then in 2021,I was promoted to Black Belt. It was an extreme honor to have her trusted coach and one of her best friends promote her to the rank of professor. She is looking forward to the years she has remaining in this wonderful art.
Vanessa Lozano is a black belt out of Red River Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Wichita Falls, TX. She is a retired US Air Force Veteran who spends most of her time operating Red River BJJ along her Professor and husband, Ben Lozano. She is part owner and one of the main instructors in the gym. Her main focus is spreading jiu-jitsu within the community and growing the Women’s Only Jiu-Jitsu program.
Vanessa started training about 10 years ago. since retiring from the Air Force, if she’s not on the mats, she’s crafting, sewing or coming up with business ventures.
